Silent Auction

We do not have a normal meeting in August. This is summer recess however, a few years ago one of our members came up with the idea of a Silent Auction, its a very successful fund raiser. Our members bring a long new or unused items. These are placed on the table with a bidding sheet. Our members buy a bidding number for £5. They have 30 minutes to look around at all the items and then when bidding is opened they have 30 minutes to find the item they want to bid on, they put their bidding number on the bidding sheet along with the amount they want to bid. Someone else can come along after them and put their number on with a higher bid. If this happens you need to go back and write your number down on the sheet again with a higher bid. The excitement reaches a crescendo when the last 30 seconds is called. Everyone wants to be the last person bidding on an item before the bell is rung. It gets quite tense at times but always plenty of laughter.
