Our Craft Group meets on the second Wednesday of the month in the hall at the Church of the Good Shepherd which is just across Lymington Bottom opposite the Village Hall where we hold our monthly meetings.
We are a small, friendly and enthusiastic group sharing expertise in several crafts: crochet, knitting, quilting and several paper crafts - iris and teabag folding, stamping, die cutting and embossing, which we use to make greetings cards. One of our members introduced us to wet felting and another demonstrated bows for gifts or bouquets and hosted a beading session at her home.
We support our W.I. by having stalls at fundraising events and knitting jumpers, baby clothes and woolly hats for various charities. We have sewn syringe-driver bags for our local hospitals and “Bags for Girls” in Africa. We have supported our village by stitching many metres of bunting for use on local and national celebratory occasions and we decorate a Christmas tree, sited each year in the village memorial garden, with knitted baubles and fairy lights made by craft group and W.I. members.
We made lots of “show the love” hearts which have been used at village events to encourage local residents to increase their “green credentials” and support green initiatives around the village.
Our latest project is a Remembrance Tablecloth. When Denman College was in operation, we would buy a “Denman Brick” to commemorate W.I. members when they died. When Deman was sold we wished to continue to remember our W.I. members. A tablecloth, which had been stitched many years ago, was found and we decided to use this as a Remembrance Cloth for those who had been members of Four Marks W.I. We trawled our archives and memories to locate as many past members as possible and we are currently in the process of stitching the names and year of death onto the cloth.
