About Hatch Warren WI

Hattie

Who are we?

Hatch Warren WI (HWWI) was formed in 1993. An initial meeting was held in April that year to investigate local interest in forming a new WI; more than 30 ladies turned up to that first meeting (which was more than the ‘handful’ expected). At the formation meeting on 4th May 1993, many of those ladies signed up to become members of Hatch Warren WI, and 10 of them volunteered to be on the first committee. Some of the original ladies still belong to HWWI and currently we have a membership of more than 30.

We offer every woman in the local area the opportunity to meet like-minded ladies for fun, friendship and a chance to learn something new. We share skills in regular craft sessions, we learn from speakers at our monthly meetings and we work together to support our members.

What is the WI?

The WI is a democratic, social and educational charity, providing its members with the opportunity to build new skills, make new friends and take part in a wide variety of activities, as well as campaigning on issues that matter to them and to their communities.

When and where do we meet?

We meet on the 1st Thursday of every month, at Hatch Warren Community Centre. Meetings start at 7:30pm and usually finish by 9:30pm.

We also like to socialize and enjoy coffee mornings at Beggarwood Café; once a month we meet up for lunch at a local pub or restaurant and our most recent outings have included a tour of the Bombay Sapphire Distillery, a tasting workshop at a Chocolate Factory and Afternoon Tea on the Watercress Line, as well as theatre trips and walks around the local area.
